Chelsea have been handed a major boost in the transfer market with the news that Juventus will consider selling Leonardo Bonucci this summer, The Sun reports.
What’s the word?
Chelsea may have stormed throughout the season, looking set to win the Premier League crown, but Antonio Conte is under no illusions that he needs to strengthen his squad for next season- and he’s been handed a boost in the hunt for a top-target.
The Sun states Italian champions Juventus are open to selling Leonardo Bonucci this summer, with it stated the majority of their squad is available for the right price- excluding Gonzalo Higuain, Paul Dybala, Alex Sandro, Marko Pjaca and their highly-rated youngsters, which include Daniele Rugani.
A bid of around £42m should be enough to see Chelsea land the 29-year-old’s signature, following a major change in heart from the Turin giants.
Why the change?
There seems to be two reasons behind Juventus’ change in their viewpoint of Bonucci, with Daniele Rugani looking to be the future of their back-line and on-loan Mattia Caldara excelling at Atalanta; which may see the 22-year-old pairing unite next season.
Bonucci turns 30 in May and selling for around £40m would land a major return- and there’s also the small matter of a bust-up between the Italian centre-half and boss Massimiliano Allegri, which saw Bonucci dropped for the Champions League victory over Porto.
Both situations play into the hands of Chelsea but they must be wary of rival interest, with Manchester City having made an advance last summer.
