According to theReal Madrid are intensifying their efforts to bring Alexander-Arnold to the Santiago Bernabeu in early June, despite his Liverpool contract running until the 30th of that month. Reports suggest that the Spanish giants have already reached an agreement in principle with the England international, but they are now working to advance the deal so that he can feature in their FIFA Club World Cup campaign this summer.

As champions of Europe, Real Madrid will participate in the newly-expanded Club World Cup, which is set to begin just three weeks after the conclusion of the regular season. Their first match is scheduled for June 18 against Al Hilal at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. However, since Alexander-Arnold’s contract with Liverpool remains valid until June 30, the Spanish club would need to negotiate an early release if they want him available from the start of the tournament. There is a brief window between June 1 and June 10 during which clubs are allowed to make squad additions or extend expiring contracts. Los Blancos are now exploring options to make a move for Alexander-Arnold during that period.
DID YOU KNOW?
Allowing Alexander-Arnold to leave early would mean Liverpool save approximately a month’s wages, while also giving them the opportunity to negotiate a small transfer fee. However, persuading the Anfield hierarchy to release one of their key players ahead of schedule will not be straightforward. Nonetheless, Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez remains adamant about signing Alexander-Arnold earlier than June 30 so that he can take part in the Club World Cup.
One possible avenue for Madrid could be utilising the restricted in-competition replacement period between June 27 and July 3. This would allow them to make squad changes mid-tournament, provided they receive authorisation from FIFA. The final of the Club World Cup is set to take place on July 13 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, meaning Madrid could still register Alexander-Arnold later in the tournament if an early release from Liverpool is not agreed upon. However, as these dates fall outside both La Liga and Premier League transfer windows, Madrid would need special permission from both leagues before finalising any deal.
AFPWHAT NEXT FOR ALEXANDER-ARNOLD?
For now, Alexander-Arnold remains committed to Liverpool’s push for a record-equalling 20th Premier League title. Under new head coach Arne Slot, they are currently 12 points clear at the top of the table, ahead of second-placed Arsenal. The Reds' next challenge comes in a high-stakes Merseyside derby against Everton at Anfield on April 2.
