The Blues finalised the signing of Paez from Ecuadorian Independiente del Valle in the summer of 2023. The two clubs agreed that the player will travel to London at the end of the 2024-25 campaign when he turns 18. , however, reports that the teenager is expected to leave the Premier League giants on loan almost immediately after formally completing his transfer to the club. The report adds that Ligue 1 side Strasbourg are likely to sign Paez on loan along with another Blues wonderkid, Mathis Amougou.

While Paez and Amougou are being sent off on loan deals, Brazilian sensation Estevao Willian will straightaway enter Enzo Maresca's set up in the first team. Willian, who turns 18 in April, will join the squad this summer and is expected to travel with the West London club for their trip to the US for the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup.
