Wolves are proving themselves to be one of the top sides in English football on almost a weekly basis at this point.
Last term the Midlands club defied all expectations as they clinched a Europa League spot just one year on from winning the Championship, and they’re now being tipped to go one better.
What’s been said then?
Harry Redknapp and Michael Owen were both in awe of what they’d just seen after Wolves beat Manchester City for the second time this season, and they tipped Nuno Espirito Santo’s side for Champions League football next term.

“Amazing, at 2-0 down you couldn’t see any way back. They weren’t getting after Man City, and Man City were almost in cruise control,” Redknapp said on Amazon Prime’s coverage of Man City vs Wolves (27/12/19 9:20 PM)
“Suddenly, the goal changed everything, Traore got that great goal and then they got closer, starting pressing higher. They’re a good team Wolves, they’ve got some really good players here, and I wouldn’t bet against them making the top four. I think they’ve got every chance the way they’re going at the moment.”
The former Spurs boss’ sentiment was then echoed by Michael Owen.
“I’m with Harry a little bit, I was surprised they didn’t get about Man City earlier, because when they did they really shook them,” Owen said.
“This place was bouncing, and as Harry says, you can envisage them getting into the top four, stranger things have happened, and they’re certainly a very very strong team.”
Can’t write them off
The Premier League is in a really bizarre place at the moment, and you simply can’t write Wolves off.
Chelsea are faltering with four defeats in six games and Wolves are now breathing down their necks, while Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham have all struggled this season and found themselves playing catchup with Wolves heading into the weekend.
Even Leicester – who for a time appeared to be Liverpool’s direct challengers for the title – have just lost two games on the bounce against the Reds and City, and Wolves are now in a position to capitalise on any lost confidence by continuing to gain ground on them.
Beating Man City twice in a season is no easy feat, and if Wolves can keep this up Owen and Redknapp’s predictions may well ring true come the end of the season, but perhaps the only obstacle is Europa League football. Elimination early in the knockout stages could be key to the Midlands outfit sustaining their form across the rest of the campaign.
Meanwhile, Wolves fans have been discussing one man’s potential departure.
