Everton are absolutely crying out for a proper centre forward, and the latest reports claim Marco Silva is eyeing a deal for Espanyol front man Borja Iglesias.
What’s the word?
According to Marca, translated by Sport Witness, the Toffees are impressed by the player and have “made moves” to pay his release clause.
The 25 year-old has a buyout clause of just €28m (around £25m), and the report claims Everton are more than willing match this sum immediately.
The only thing currently holding up the deal is the player himself, who is happy with Espanyol and would like to stay with the La Liga outfit at least until the summer.
FFC’s James Jones has identified the one thing that could cost Liverpool the title. Find out what it is in the video below…
Is he good enough?
Well, this is Iglesias’ first proper season in the top division of Spanish football, but his goalscoring record in the Segunda Division is truly remarkable.
The 6 ft 2 in striker has scored 97 times in 185 games in the second division, with 34 and 22 of those coming in the last two seasons, respectively.
He has since carried that impressive form over into the top flight, scoring nine and adding two assists so far this season, meaning he has contributed to 58 per cent of Espanyol’s 19 league goals.
The Spaniard is not the most athletic striker in the world, but he is great in the air (1.2 aerial wins per game), a fantastic chance creator (1.4 key passes per game) and most of all he just knows how to stick the ball in the net, averaging 2.7 shots per game this campaign.
Iglesias’ clever movement, instinctive finishing and dominant hold-up play would give Everton something they simply don’t have at the moment – think Cenk Tosun if he could actually score goals.
So, Everton fans, would you back a £25m move for Iglesias? Let us know your thoughts by voting in the poll below…
