Harry Redknapp has insisted that Luka Modric won’t be leaving Tottenham to join Chelsea BBC Sport understands.
The Spurs boss has stated that saga involving the Croatian ‘is finished’ and he will be staying at White Hart Lane this season.
Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas had targeted the 25-year-old and had a £22 million bid rejected earlier in the summer.
Redknapp has now stated that Modric won’t be going anywhere and will be playing at the weekend.
He told BBC Sport: “He’ll play on Sunday [against Manchester City] for sure. He’ll stay… it is finished.”
“I think there was a meeting on Thursday and Daniel [Levy, the chairman] just said the same thing, he’s not for sale.
“It’s been difficult for him but we want him to stay and he will stay.” He added
“He’ll train on Friday and Saturday and should be fit for Sunday. He could have kicked up and been a problem and if he had done it would have been difficult to keep him.
“If players want to be destructive they can be but he’s not got that in his nature.
“He’ll stay and play and will be great as he has been every other year.”
Modric is now expected to play against City Sunday and could soon be joined Real Madrid midfielder Lassana Diarra.
Redknapp is keen to bring the Frenchman to North London and believes he’ll sign before the transfer window closes despite reports from Spain claiming the deal had stalled.
